Maahi dam of Banswara has spilled over on Friday, August 31. Thanks to continues inflow of water from the Erav River. All sixteen gates were open and to witness the magical natural event, big crowd flocked to the dam.
Until 1700 hrs on Friday about 1384 cusec of water was flowing and to cope with the heavy inflow, irrigation department realeased all sixteen gates for half a meter each. Later the flow increased and the gates were further lifted tothree meters. Later by the 2000 hrs, eight gates had been closed while rest remained open with half meter each. Maahi Dam has once again become a hot sport in the town.
Having heard this news, even people from Udaipur are hoping for rain to return and fill up the lakes like Fateh Sagar and Pichhhola. According to the history, nine times in the past rain exceptional rain in September has caused an overflow of Lakes in Udaipur. So fingers are crossed and hopes are alive.
According to the irrigation department, more than 15 dams have over flowed putting small and big dams together. As per the flood control room of Banswara, so far five dams of 100 MCFT, six dams of 50-100 MCFT, four dams below 50 MCFT of capacity have spilled over their limiting walls and many others are on the verge.
